Full Description
Cropmarks - ? Oval enclosure, circa 20m long x 10m wide, trapezoid with rounded E end, open W end - ?long barrow. Possible small ring ditch to S of W end (S1).
AP assessment identified a small enclosure and adjacent small ring ditch. The assessment demonstrated the putative long barrow to be one of a conjoined pair of rectangular features, of unusual form and unknown type, while the ring ditch may be a component of an area of occupation (S2).
A cropmark of a possible conjoined rectilinear enclosure of unknown date, 23m by 7 m. On photography from 1978 the enclosure appears to be open to the western end, but photography from 1980 shows a further ditch which cuts across the western end of the enclosure. A cropmark of a small ring ditch, 4m in diameter, which probably represents a ploughed out round barrow is also visible. There are also several cropmarks of field boundaries and linear ditches in proximity to the enclosure and round barrow. Helen Saunders (Essex County Council) January 2014. (S3), (S4), (S5)
