Full Description
An area of intensive military training activity is visible as earthworks and associated features south and east of Yarn Hill in 1945.(S1-2) The features include numerous probable minefields around TM 423555 (with a further area at TM42945571) with what may be flamethrower and flail clearance attempts, as well as a number of sections of probable barbed wire (TM 42805571, TM 42835571, TM 43005571, TM 43145565 and TM 43195569) and a slit trench (TM 42825578). The south side of the Alde Estuary was used during World War II for armoured vehicle training and this area is one of a number of military sites around here. The fields are grassland or arable by 1955. (S3)
