Full Description
A World War II strongpoint can be seen just to the north of RAF Bawdsey. It consisted of a hexagonal pillbox encircled by a number of lengths of barbed wire obstruction. (S1) (S2) The barbed wire was constructed some time after July 1940 and had been removed by October 1945. (S3) The pillbox was constructed before October 1945 and is still in the same position today. (S4)
The strongpoint would have formed part of the wartime defences protecting the important site of RAF Bawdsey.
Also seen as part of field survey of Suffolk Coast - Hexagonal concrete pillbox. Single firing port on each side, blast wall to door at rear. S5
Actually in Bawdsey parish.
