Full Description

A number of irregularly shaped ditched enclosures and boundaries of unknown function and date, and a possibly associated track are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs, centred on circa TM440923 near the bank of the River Waveney on the northern edge of Beccles Marshes, Beccles parish. The cropmarks are visible to the east and west of the possible relict flood defence bank (BCC 063) and may therefore predate it, potentially originating in the medieval period. However, the irregular nature of the cropmarks and possible palaeochannel crossing this area may support an alternative interpretation as natural occurring features. Further field investigation is required to clarify this issue. (S1, S2)
