Description
Monitoring in advance of new dwelling and garage. Site visits were made during groundworks including strip foundation for a new garage and pile caps and ground-beems for the main house. Garage Plot: The existing ground surface was effectively level. A 0.6m deep layer of topsoil was encountered throughout the footing, at the northern end of the garage plot adjacent to the standing boundary wall, lay directly on sand and gravel subsoil. From that juncture, the surface of the subsoil sloped down to the south c3m before levelling out at a depth of 1.2m with a second, intervening, layer of topsoil darker in colour (0.5m thick), occurring beneath the upper layer (S1).
