Full Description

A church plus 30 acres & 1.5 acres meadow are listed at Monewden in the Domesday survey of 1086.
Church of St Mary. Consists of chancel, nave, S porch & W tower. Norman: Two small windows in nave.
C14: Main structure including tower.
C16: S porch.
1643: Visited by William Dowsing.
1906: Restoration (S1).
1993: Watching brief revealed 19th and 20th century pottery sherds and a few small fragments of bone (possibly human) (S2).
