Full Description
Hall: Large E-shaped mansion built of red brick. Elizabethan in origin, much altered c.1712-22 for Dudley North (S1)(S2).
A survey of 1592 for Sir Henry Glemham states that `Glemham Hall... ys scituate in Glemam Parke 2 parts of yt moted abowt having 2 courts within yt'. It contained a hall, parlour, kitchen, larder, patry, buttry, seller, pantry, 2 lower rooms between the gatehouse and the kitchen, chamber over the parlour, hall, pantry and kitchen all with chimneys, 5 other chambers over the low rooms without chimneys, an armourey above the parlour chamber, 2 garrets over the pantry and kitchen chambers. A bakehouse and brewhouse in one in the outer court SE of the house, a kiln and malthouse, a dairy and milkhouse with chambers over, a dove house, a barn adjoining SW to the gatehouse, 2 stables, a slaughter house and a cart house. The mansion house was built of brick and tiled, the outhouses were timber-built and tiled (except the barn, which was thatched)(S3).
