Full Description
Large pit containing and surrounded by Post Medieval gunflint production waste. Labelled 'Gravel pit' (adjoining 'Gravelpit Covert') on 1884 map but presumably penetrated chalk as well, hence the [local?] presence of high quality flint (S1).
June 2017. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
The post medieval gravel pit and probable flint mine described above is visible as an earthwork on imagery from a 2015 lidar survey (S2). Gullies and hollows visible within the pit are similar to those recorded at other post medieval flint mines, such as BRD 138 215m to the east.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 28th June 2017.
