Full Description

Site of Thorpe Hall? (S1). Said to be around TM 2822 5599 (S2).
1979: Pasture with traces of old plough and garden land. 27 households and a small manor-house with a 100 acres were recorded at Thorpe Hall (S3). Location unknown.

There is no local information or ground evidence to support the siting of Thorp Hall. The sub-square depression shown on OS 25" and the surrounding area are under pasture. The depression measuring c6.0 square and c1.5m deep is of unknown origin; no building debris to suggest a cellar can be seen. All of the mentioned "moated enclosures" appear to be unassociated drainage systems or ponds of no archaeological interest. Wide drainage ditches are a common feature to this area (S4).
