Full Description
Deserted Medieval settlement of Bregge, Westleton. Also known as Breggestreet and Brincas according to Peter Warner. Cited location of TM 465 707 (S1)
Lay on main arterial route into the Medieval trade town of Dunwich, and was dependent on this trade. Declined as Dunwich was abandoned, and by 1463 was in a ruinous state.
See S1 and S2 for more information.
January 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Mapping Programme.
It was not possible to positively identify the deserted medieval village described above from the available aerial photographs. However, possible undated earthwork ditches are visible on aerial photographs on land to the north-west of the area. They are visible only faintly within heathland vegetation and consequently it was difficult to discern the extent of the archaeological features. They have been recorded separately (SHER WLN 086).
