Full Description

Scatter of pottery including double-cordoned bowls and fragments of butt beaker. Map reference 62/503379 (S1). West describes `some twenty hearth sites and two meandering ditches were disclosed. The pottery here is all pre AD 43 and shows no effect of Romanisation, either in form or ware. Double cordoned bowls are prevalent, together with a fragment of a butt beaker and a storage jar'. The location mapped by him is TM 3773 5023 (S5). Main concentration of Rom and Belgic sherds found on the N side of a ? large pit or natural hollow in an area around TM 3755 5010 (S2). Original grid reference probably inaccurate as well as inverted. Air photographs show complex indistinct linear features, some probably natural 'polygons', over whole field (S3)(S4).
