Under Thomas Costley, rector 1808-1860, the church was ordered in the Georgian manner: new "inner roof to chancel; worn stone in E and chancel windows and jambs of chancel door replaced; second gallery built below musicians' gallery at W end of nave; pews painted". Under Robert Godolphin Peter, rector 1860-1895 chancel restored and re-ordered circa 1866. "Floor excavated to supposed original level 3 inches below nave. Vestry built on foundations of ancient chapel N of the chancel; N aisle extended to form chancel aisle". "Nave restored in 1869; galleries removed; tower opened into nave with Gothic arch; pews and old floor removed; walls and stonework cleaned of paint and whitewash; bases of piers restored; floor laid with Minton tiles; benched for circa 275 pounds (precis) (S1).
"The church is chiefly of the Perpendicular period, with portions of older work". "The nave with clerestorey is Perpendicular, with fine flat timber roof". "The tower is late Early English." (precis). For further details see (S2).
The S porch is C14; the clerestorey is C15; the S chancel door is early C16; the W tower is C14; the font is C15 and there are five late C18 bells (precis) (S3). For full description of church architecture see (S3). Mr W Walford of Stoke, exhibited ... two silver coins of Edward I (AD 1272- 1307) and Edward III (AD 1327-1377) taken from a coffin in Cavendish churchyard (to the quarterly meeting held at Clare on September 14, 1848)(S6).
