Full Description

Large pottery scatter on field ploughed since 1985.

"Rom sherds. Site dug by T C Lethbridge circa 1925" (Lady G Briscoe 1951)(S1, S9).
Information on ERL 018 (Lethbridge excavation) probably refers to the same site.

1980: Site pasture, pottery in rabbit and mole hills, including N Valley, (S3).
Coins (not seen) ? Hadrian - Valentinian (S3).

"25 sherds of coarse Roman pottery, 2 lumps of daub, 2 sherds Samian (one C2 F.33), one Med rim from site probably dug by T Lethbridge - much material in Cambridge Museum", "R R Clarke 30/12/37" (S2).

May 1985: Bronze cauldron found with metal detector. Found 3 feet deep, from Eriswell. Grid reference sited incorrectly by BSEMH

1988: Findspot confirmed as within ERL 017 (S5).

For other Rom cauldrons see IKL 035 and Norfolk HER: 5465 Hockwold hoard. Since 1985 the site has been ploughed and extensively metal detected. Note proximity to similar large Rom scatter, ERL 007.
Also hoard of siliqua found on this field, several years ago, associated with four gold finger rings including a matching pair. Finder not specified (S6).

Plate brooch of `Ad locutio' type, poor condition, said to have been found here. Not seen (S7).
