Full Description

Palaeoliths from Lakenheath are listed in various sources including some from identified sites. However, the majority would appear to derive from Maidscross Hill (LKH 036) even though often recorded only as `Lakenheath'.

The material from provenanced sites not related to the gravel of Maidscross Hill are probably mostly in secondary positions, i.e. in gravel for road making - see Wymer (S1).

CBA Gazetteer lists 254 hand-axes and some other material (no Levallois) and lists museums (S4). For other sources see (S1-S8).

Formerly recorded as LKH MISC
