Monument record BAW 098 - World War II military features.

A number of World War II military features, constructed at some time before July 1940, are visible on aerial photographs, including a number of slit trenches, two small circular structures and a larger circular structure which appears to have a ditch encircling it. This feature may be a single gun emplacement, possibly a Spigot Mortar emplacement. (S1) By July 1944 another building has been constructed just to the north of the gun emplacement. It appears to be a roughly rectangular building which is rounded on one end. It is still depicted on the modern base map. There are also a number of temporary structures visible at this date which may relate to the later construction of the DIVER battery (BAW 085). (S2) By October 1945 the battery (BAW 085) has been constructed and the only earlier feature still visible is the rectangular building visible on (S2). (S3)
Also seen as part of field survey of Suffolk Coast - hexagonal pillbox with rectangular brick built blockhouse/observation platform (?) to rear (recorded as BAW 176). 50m to S of pillbox there is a small breeze block built structure of unknown purpose. S4

2014: A survey of WW2 heritage at risk on the Suffolk coast recorded a number of concrete blocks cemented together to form walls along with a length of scaffold pole were noted at the low water mark. The concrete is possibly parts of the small breeze block structure recorded in 2002 (see above). A number of other lengths of probable scaffold pole were noted on the beach along with a section of concrete pipe which may be part of the spigot mortar base recorded in 2002 (see above). (S5).
