Early Iron Age and Post Medieval pits identified during open area excavation at Hartismere Hospital

Small, six-sided (?) enclosure set within larger semi-circular ?enclosure ditch showing on N side (S1).

Poor Law Institution (replacing Hartismere Union Workhouse - see EYE 018). First mapped in 1920s as 'Poor Law Institution' with associated 'Mortuary' to E by OS. Became Hartismere Hospital with apparent survival of original buildings.

Chipped chisel of yellow flint found in the ploughsoil at Harvest Farm, Milden by C Hawkins, Milden Hall, Brent Eleigh, who retains possession (S1).

Excavation identified a Saxon settlement with evidence of trade, metal, antler, bone and textile working.

C17 brown glazed ware, some C16 sherds. Also C17 coin hoard of about 100 coins.
