Ancient Woodland

Flint tranchet axe, triangular section, 116mm long x 34mm wide, light brown patination (S1).

Large flint tranchet axe, broken in antiquity (large hollow flaw), roughly triangular section, 13cm long x 4cm wide, reddish-brown patination.

Probable ancient woodland suggested by the field name on the tithe appontionment that there was once an ancient woodland in this place though it is not actually shown as woodland on the tithe map.

Evaluation identified a cemetery thought to be associated with the 'lost' church or chapel known as Ostirbolt and the remains of medieval and post-medieval buildings.
