Full Description
Stoke Mill & bridge across the Orwell/Gipping shown on Bowen's, Hodskinson's, Saxton's & Speede's maps (S1-S5). Construction dates unknown although Stoke Bridge is one of two (also Handford) earliest documented bridges in Suffolk, being recorded in circa 970 (S8). In mid 17th century, use was only permitted when ford was impassable.
1495: Transport using bridge to pay towards maintenance.
1559: Re-built (timber) (S3).

Also shown on Ogilbys map 1675 (S6).
2010: Evidence for the backfilling of the basin adjacent to Stoke Mill, as marked on Pennington’s map, was identified during monitoring of a cable trench (S7).
