Full Description

2013: Archaeological evaluation and monitoring revealed a gravel extraction pit. It is likely that this extraction pit was used in construction or road building during the medieval period. Features in the base of the evaluation trench hint at activities taking place on the site, although it appears the area was not heavily populated. A 19th century pit lined with concrete and filled with lime and containing several horn cores may indicate the presence of a tanner in the vicinity although it could equally represent butchery waste. A 19th to 20th century well was identified during the monitoring (S1). Archaeological evaluation and monitoring revealed a gravel extraction pit.
