Full Description

2012: A geophysical survey identified several linear and two pit-like anomalies. Field boundaries visible on historic maps were also identified (S1).

2013: An archaeological evaluation revealed part of a medieval ditch system, with some evidence for settlement, in the north-western part of the site. Pottery from the ditches dates the activity to the 12th to 14th centuries, the date being consistent with that of the medieval remains identified to the south east (ELO 004). The remains of a post-medieval/modern field system were also identified, the ditches corresponding to linear anomalies identified by the earlier geophysical survey. The field boundaries are shown on 19th and 20th-centruy maps of the site; however, it is likely that some of the ditches pre-date the 18th and 19th-century Enclosure Acts, although no archaeological evidence was found to date them prior to this period (S2).

Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 2013 (S3)
