Full Description

Assessment of the potential for the analysis and publication of the archaeologicial finds at RAF Lakenheath (S1-S2).

Excavation during road resurfacing uncovered a network of Roman ditches and pits as well as a Roman building and an Early Anglo-Saxon building. The band of N-S multi-cut ditches interpreted as settlement boundary at the latter part of the Roman period. A single, probably new born burial was found lying at the junction of several ditches. The three wells identified were all 1.5m deep, cut into chalk and just touched the modern water table (S3-S4).
