Full Description

The site produced evidence for multi-phase, late prehistoric, agricultural, domestic and funerary activity which spanned 4 distinct phases and was broadly characterised by five cremation burials and elements of an enclosed Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age farmstead. The location of the late prehistoric farmstead was indicated by a dense concentration of pits containing domestic waste, which flanked a post-built roundhouse, within a ditched enclosure. Additionally, at the southern edge of the site, three urned cremations were revealed in a loose cluster north of Waldringfield Road. The cremations potentially formed part of a Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age cremation cemetery which straddled Waldringfield Road and extended southwards from Site 28b into Site 28c (excavated by Rubicon Heritage during the same scheme of works). A post-medieval quarry pit was also revealed at the northern extent of the site (S1).
