Trenched evaluation revealed early 20th century features associated with nearby naval training establishment. Landscaping of slope down to marina also identified but not thought to be part of nearby 19th C. gun battery.

'Red Hill' identified on freshly cultivated field in early autumn 2005 (S1). Below 5m contour on edge of Shotley Marshes. Presumably Roman.
